President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria Hon. Justice Babatunde Adejumo, OFR. has charged lawyers to elucidate on facts to judges and put them on their toes for optimum service delivery.
Adejumo gave the charge in his remarks as the Chairman of a lecture as part of activities to mark the 2017 Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) , Akure branch week during the week.
The NICN President who was represented by Justice Mrs O O Owoyemi said both members of the Bar and the Bench are to work in tandem to ensure smooth justice system for the betterment of the society.
He implored the Akure bar to be vibrant,dynamic and articulate in discharging their duties not minding whose ox is gored while upholding the principle of the rule of law.
Delivering his lecture at the Public Lecture , Chief Frank Akinrele, SAN charged members of the NBA, Akure branch and by extension Nigeria to be the voice to the voiceless in the society.
Akinrele who spoke on the theme “Whither Bound Nigeria? :A case study of our legal system ” advised lawyers to bring to bear the benefit of the profession to the society by enlightening the general public whenever they are in crisis, saying that it is the duty of the lawyers to stand up to the occasion
He declared that by their training, lawyers are to educate and orientate the public on issues bordering on national perspective.
The Guest Lecturer who gave insight to the challenges the legal profession is experiencing from time immemorial assured that turbulence times are surmountable through proactive effort of lawyers and judges.
He opined that the legal profession either in Nigeria or in the western world is the backbone of a nation through the drafting of the constitution and proponent of the principle of spirit the justice.
The Legal Luminary said history of legal profession with all the fundamental principles laid down established that lawyers are the light of the world, adding that they must not stay aloof.
Welcoming dignitaries to the occasion, Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Akure branch Mr Adetunji Oso,Esq said the search for an enduring balance in the social polity, makes the lecture inevitable
Highlight of the ceremony was the naming of the proposed auditorium after Hon Justice Babatunde Adejumo and Chief Frank Akinrele, SAN.
Notable Nigerians at the elaborate Public Lecture included : Senator Anthony Adeniyi Mr Arthur Okafor, SAN, Mr Tayo Oyetibo, SAN, Mr Taofeek Abdusalam and , Mr Remi Olatubora among others.
