The Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has said it would summon top officials of Akoko North East Local Government Area, Ikare-Akoko, in respect of some projects executed by the council.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Jamiu Maito stated this during the committee’s oversight visit and inspection of some projects executed in some communities by Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state
Hon. Maito emphasised that the oversight visit is part of the constitutional roles of the legislators, noting that the committee was not out to witch-hunt anybody, but to ensure that people at the grassroots get real dividends of democracy.
He insisted that the rural dwellers must feel the positive impact of government because they are also part of the society.
The committee Chairman expressed reservations about some of the projects executed and concluded that the top officials of the council should be invited to explain some things to the committee.
Hon. Maito said the lawmakers are interested in how public funds are being spent for the benefit of the people.
He also expressed displeasure over the dwindling Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the local government, saying that the staff of the council are not doing well in that regard.
Other members of the committee on the oversight visit are, Hon. Kaseem Suleiman, Vice Chairman; Hon. Olugbenga Araoyinbo, the House Majority Leader; Hon. Olusegun Ajimotokin, Deputy Majority Leader; Hon. Sunday Olajide; Hon. Felemu Bankole; Hon. Oluyede Feyide, and Mr. Bola Ibuola, who serves as Secretary of the committee.
