A two-term Commissioner in Ondo State and chieftain of the People’s Democratic (PDP) in Odigbo Local Government area of the State, Mrs. Margaret Akinsuroju, has decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akinsuroju, who decamped to the APC alongside with other four thousand of her followers in the area, said their decisions to dump their former party and pitch their tents with the APC was aimed towards contributing their quotas to the changes and development currently embarked upon by the Akeredolu-led administration in the state.
The former Commissioner, who attributed their defection to various in-house problems confronting their former party (PDP), explained that if they continue to remain in the party, they might not be able to realise their hopes and aspirations of contributing to the masses-oriented programmes of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN.
She explained that her followers who were about four thousand in number, cut across the length and breadth of the local government, noting that they are also passionate about changing Ondo state for good, as encapsulated in the cardinal programmes of the present administration in the State.
Akinsuroju , who was also a former member, Ondo State Hospitals Management Board in the last administration, stressed that the decision of large numbers of his group to dump the PDP has brought an end to the party in the local government.
She pledged the readiness of her group to always abide with the rules and regulations of the APC and ensure its success in any future elections, while using the occasion to commend the President Mohammadu Buhari-led administration over what she described as systematic approach to the problem of insurgency in the country.
She made passionate appeal to the Caretaker Chairman of the local government, Prince George Adenikinju to use his position see to the completion of the road that leads to her community, Igburowo, that was abandoned by the last administration in the state.
Receiving the new members, the Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Ismaila Olurimisi, congratulated Mrs. Akinsuroju and her group over their decision to be part of the history of transforming Ondo State for good.
The Commissioner, while assuring the new members of equal treatment, urged them to unite with the leaders of the party in the area and ensure that peace, progress and stability continue to take its full stand in the party.
While welcoming the new members, Olurimisi stressed the need for them to cooperate with the party, stating that several achievements recorded by the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administrationin in Ondo State in the last few months is a clear indication that APC is a progressive party.
He mentioned some of the achievements to include, establishment of road network across the state, preparation of the state for industrial development through creation of the enabling enviroment and incentive, ensuring peace in the state, transparency and accountability as well as good welfare package for workers are clear indications of good governance.
Several leaders of the party in the area which include, Prince George Adenikinju, Caretaker Chairman of Odigbo local government, a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Akin Fashogbon as well as a Special Adviser to Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Political Matters, Mr. Tunji Fabiyi commended the new members and advised them to be loyal to the party.
The event held at the APC secretariat Ore, headquarters of Odigbo local government, was attended by several members of the party in the council area, chairmen of the party in the area as well as party stalwarts among others.
