The Pan Yoruba  Socio Cultural group, Afenifere has decried the dehumanization of Nigerian citizens in Libya where they are being used as sex slaves and therefore called on the Federal Government  to as a matter of urgency rise up and guarantee a safe environment for the Nigerian citizens .

Afenifere made the call in a communique issued   at the end of a monthly meeting held at the residence of their leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti  in  Akure and signed by it’s Secretary, Yinka Odumakin.

According to the communique “After a serious deliberation, the meeting was disturbed by the horrific graphics and humiliating report of Nigerians in Libya being treated less than human being and been subjected and treated as sex slaves and our  citizens having their dignity been forcefully removed”.

“We must say that it becomes worrisome with the level of hardship in this country that few days ago the global poverty club released a report that by February 2018, Nigeria is going to become the global headquarters of extreme poverty in the world that will harbor the most poorest of the poor, we will overtake India, what are we doing about this,” it added.

The communique also admonished the Federal Government to put a stop to the mindless killings of innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen who engaged in perennial conflicts with farmers, saying it must enforce  law and orders as its primary duties is to protect it’s citizens’  lives and property.

The communique also stated that putting the minimum wage in the exclusive list where only the Federal government could negotiate will create a problem because the Federal government  will negotiate for states, Local government workers whereas it is the different tiers of government that pays their wages.

In order to avoid problem, Afenifere said the FG should negotiate for Federal workers only and let the other tiers negotiate for their workers, adding that until that is done, some states will underpay their workers.

“In fact, in the first republic, the western region was paying higher minimum wage  than the FG,it is not only the FG that can protect the interest of workers, let every tier of government negotiate their wages with their workers in the true spirit of federalism”.
