AAUA radio for commissioning Saturday

No fewer than 50 graduates of  Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, have made First Class degrees in different fields of study in the University which holds the grand finale of its seventh  convocation ceremony on saturday.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, while briefing journalists on activities lined up to mark a nine-day convocation ceremony disclosed that two sets of graduating students comprising 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 academic sessions with a total of 9, 812 graduands would receive various degrees in different programmes.

Prof. Ajibefun explained that of the total number, 7,786 graduands belong to the 2014/2015 session while 2,026 graduating students are for the 2015/2016 session.

He equally said of the 7, 786 that graduated in 2014/2015 session, 29 bagged First Class Honours, 1,316 graduated with Second Class Upper Division , 5,183 had Second Class Lower Division, 1, 027 got Third Class while 69 earned Pass Degree.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, of the 2,026 graduating students for the 2015/2016 academic session, 21 bagged First Class, 609 graduated in Second Class Upper Division, 1,151 had Second Class Lower, 239 made Third Class while 6 got Pass Degree.

Also, in the post-graduate category, 16 bagged Doctor of Philosophy , Ph.D; 128 earned Master’s degree, while 18 had Postgraduate Diploma in Education(PGDE).

Prof. Ajibefun disclosed that three prominent Nigerians, including an eminent son of the state would be conferred with Honourary Awards  on Saturday  for their contributions to the development of the University and the education sector in the country.

The awardees are the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha who would be conferred with Doctor of Letters (D. Litt.); Chief Kesington Adebutu who would receive Doctor of Business Finance( Honoris  Causa, and  Engr Julius Ajibulu who would be conferred with Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).

He also announced that as part of activities marking the 7th Convocation ceremony, the Visitor to the University and Governor  of the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, would commission the University Radio, Radio AAUA 90.3FM on Saturday which is the grand finale.

“On Day Seven, Friday, December 8, there shall be Conferment of First Degrees on graduating students of the Faculties of Education, Social and Management Sciences, the Institute of Education, Institute of Part-Time Programmes and Presentation of Prizes.

“Two major events are slated for Day Eight and Second Day of  Graduation, the Grand Finale, coming up on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 9:am. The University Radio, Radio AAUA 90.3FM, A Station Of Lofty Ideals, will be commissioned by the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

“Conferment of First Degrees on Graduating Students of the Faculties of Arts, Law and Science; Conferment of Postgraduate Diplomas, Higher Degrees, Honorary Degrees and Presentation of prizes will hold at 10:00am same day at the University Multipurpose Hall.

“The Convocation will be rounded off on Day Nine, Sunday, December 10, 2017 with an Interdenominational Service at the University  Multipurpose Hall at 10:00am”, Prof. Ajibefun added.

The Vice Chancellor particularly lauded Arakunrin Akeredolu for his  unalloyed support for the University since inception of his administration despite the economic challenges in the country, just as he appealed to corporate organizations to assist the institution in the area of infrastructural development including provision of hostel

accommodation, saying that government alone cannot fund University education.

The Convocation ceremony started with Jumat Service last week Friday.
