Ondo will be South-West economic hub –Akeredolu

Governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has called on Akure sons and daughters to always support and cooperate with government in bringing about the needed socio-economic development to the ancient city.

He made the call at the 2017 Oyemekun festival celebration and fund raising held at Democracy Park, Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The event was attended by top government functionaries, captains of industries, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Akure sons and daughters, various groups and associations, among others.

Akeredolu who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, noted that government is doing everything possible to make the state the economic hub of the South West and appealed to well-meaning Akure sons and daughters to assist government in that regard to bring more development to the state capital as government alone cannot do it.

The Governor commended the people of Akure for their efforts at developing the city and appealed to them to continue to support his administration for more development.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, explained that Oyemekun Festival which was last held in 2007 was resuscitated to strengthen unity and amity among Akure sons and daughters.

He emphasised the need for Akure sons and daughters, both home and in the diaspora, to shun personal interest, ego or politics capable of dividing them, adding that his mission and vision of his forefathers is to ensure that Akure becomes the destination of investors and the economic hub of the South West and Nigeria in no distance time.

Oba Aladelusi urged well-meaning sons and daughters of Akure including non-indigenes, to set up medium and large scale industries in Akureland to create jobs for the youth.

He promised to sustain the existing peace, unity and harmonious relationship among different tribes and religious groups in the land to further ensure progress and development of the city.

Also, a member of House of Representatives representing Akure South and North Federal Constituency, Hon Afe Olowookere lauded the people of Akureland for their commitment to the development of the town, saying that government alone cannot bring development to all communities and cities.

Hon. Olowookere called on the people of the city including those in the diaspora to continually join hands together, generate ideas and always contribute their quotas  towards moving Akure to greater heights.

He further appealed to well-meaning individuals, friends and associates of the ancient city to assist in the development and improvement of the economy of the land.

Also, Chief Dapo Filani described the festival as very successful, noting that  it has provided an avenue for them to meet and brainstorm on ways to move the city forward.

He lauded the Deji of Akure for bringing Akure sons and daughters together for the development of the land.

Highlight of the event was the installation of Rear Admiral Ilesanmi Alade (rtd), an indigene of Oyin Akoko, as Balogun of Akureland.
