Leaders and members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State have passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the state chapter of the party under the chairmanship of Chief Korede Duyile a former member of the House of Representatives and former Commissioner of Education in the State.
This was the highlight of the senatorial district meeting of the zone comprising six Local Government Areas.
In a communiqué signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Remi Olayiwola in Akure, the meeting endorsed the State Executive Committee decision on the suspension of three officers of the party for serious anti- party activities .
The communiqué stated that the three officials deliberately lured unsuspecting members of the party into an unauthorised and unconstitutional meeting with another political party contrary to the constitution of the party. The suspension is awaiting the decision of the party’s national headquarters on the final expulsion of the erring officials.
Moving the motion for a vote of confidence in the state chairman Chief Duyile and his Executive , one of the leaders from Ilaje Local Government Chief Lokoso Ajimuda described Chief Duyile as a leader worth emulating as a result of his immense political experience, adding that the party is as strong as it was before, during and after the last governorship election in the area.
Welcoming ten new members into the party at the meeting, Chief Duyile thanked leaders in the area for of their loyalty adding that they should not relent at encouraging those who are still interested in joining the party.
Chief Duyile said that the leadership of the party at the national level is in top discussions with some political parties with similar philosophy and ideology with the SDP adding that the outcome of the discussion would not only be beneficial to the party but also to the country at large.
Earlier, former SDP Deputy Governorship candidate in the last election, Erelu Modupe Akindele-Martins expressed appreciation of the party’s governorship candidate. Dr Olu Agunloye to the members, saying that the impressive turn out of members at the meeting was an indication that the SDP remains the credible alternative in the state.
Among those at the meeting were the State Vice Chairman (Central Senatorial District) Chief Bayo Fajemilua, the State Organizing Secretary, Hon. Dupe Sunday and the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Remi Olayiwola.
