It was a total rendition of soul-winning songs by famous gospel Artistes who converged at The New Covenant centre in Akure, for the 11th Musical Concert of one of their own, Lady Evangelist Mary Ogonnoh, popular known as ‘Mary J’.
The atmosphere was indeed, charged with melodious praise songs produced by notable and reputable singers like; Deaconess Juliet Oloruntogbe-Taiwo (Iwo ni Maa sin), Evangelist Bunmi Murphy (Arole Jesu), Evangelist Oluwatosin Fagbade, among numerous others, which kept the large audience dancing throughout the duration of the show.
Speaking at the annual concert, State Governor of Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN), Rev David Akinadewo stressed the importance of gospel music as spiritual food to the soul.

He said gospel music is quite different from other genres of music, as it serves as a spiritual food that transforms and connects human beings to their creator through songs and praises.
“Jesus Himself is Gospel. The song we minister to the people is ‘Jesus’ into the soul of mankind. It is very germane to our spiritual development because it assists in our growth and services to God”, he said.
He enjoined members of the association to follow the dictates of the tenets of gospel, adding that they should endeavour to life worthy of emulation, such that will glorify the name of God and the type that preaches the gospel of Christ.
“People must be able to read Jesus Christ through you. Like it was in Antiope in The Acts of Apostles, Christ’s Disciples never announced to anyone that they are Christ’s followers, but when the people saw the traits in them, they described them as ‘Chrislikes’
“They are like the man (Jesus) they crucified. That is where the word ‘Christianity’ is coined from. People must see Jesus Christ in your day-to-day activities, he preached.
Rev Akinadewo however, admonished members of the association, to strive to live a Chris-like lives worthy of emulation and devoid of questionable tendencies, so as to properly and efficiently propagate the gospel of God to the world.
In an exclusive interview with The Hope Friday Extravaganza, the Celebrant, Mary J, said gospel songs and praises, remain the only spiritual food and the surest avenue through which we can communicate with God and and acquaint ourselves with Him.
The Ilaje-born singer said it is a means by which the gospel of the Most High God can be ministered to the World and prepare them for His glorious Kingdom.
“It is more rewarding, when we sing songs that transforms lives by feeding them with the true words of God through music.
“When we sing praises to Him in truth, He opens the gate of Heaven for the release of torrential blessings.
“It is a genre of music that gives hope to the hopeless and restores joy into the heart of those that are sorrowful and above all, gospel songs connects our soul to our Heavenly Father, thereby creating a personal relationship with Him”, she said.
Also, another gospel artist, Evangelist Arole Jesu described gospel songs as a brand of music that touches lives, motivates, inspires souls and tells us more about Jesus who is the only way to salvation.
Arole Jesu who said lack of sponsors and promoters is killing gespel music, appealed to government at all levels, Philanthropists and other stakeholders to ensure gospel music do not go into extinction and give it the type of support and attention being enjoyed by secular songs.
Lovers of gospel songs who spoke with The Hope Friday Extravaganza at separate interviews, described the artist as a God-fearing and talented lady whose lifestyle depicts Godly virtues.
They admonished her to jealously guide the Ministry which the Lord had entrusted in her, adding that she should continue to be more prayerful for more divine inspirations.
Other Artistes who thrilled the elated audience include; the Guest Artist, Evangelist Mercy Alayo-Ige, Evangelist Bisi Alawiye-Aluko, Evangelist Oluwale, Evangelist Sade Owoeye, Evangelist Ayo Melody among others.
