Man, 22, remanded for alleged armed robbery

A 22-year-old man, Omole Seun has been remanded in Olokuta prison custody by an Akure Chief Magistrate court sitting at Okeeda in Akure magisterial district over alleged armed robbery.

The accused person brought before magistrate Oluwafunmi Edwin is facing a six count-charge of conspiracy, felony with armed robbery, fraud and having in his possession criminal charm.

According to the charge, the accused was alleged to have on July 2, 2017 at about 6.00am at Shagari Village Akure in Akure magisterial district armed with gun, cutlass and other offensive weapons, robbed one Lateef Safurat of her itel android phone valued thirty five thousand naira (N35,000).

The accused was also alleged to have on July 3, 2017 at about 1.00am at Shagari Village, Akure in the aforementioned magisterial district, fraudulently withdrew the sum of eighteen thousand naira (N18,000) from First Bank account belonging to Lateef Safurat Funmilayo, through on-line banking knowingly to have extracted the pin/BVN from the phone he robbed.

The accused person proceeded on 13th day of September, 2017 at about 8.00pm at the same place, in the aforementioned magisterial district  robbed one Esther Adesanmi of her itel 1516plus android phone valued thirty five thousand naira (N35,000) and sum of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) cash total valued two hundred and thirty five thousand naira (N235,000).

The accused was alleged to have withdrawn the sum of fifteen thousand six hundred naira (N15,600) from Access Bank account belonging to Omonitemi Esther Adesanmi through on-line banking on 14th day of September 2017 respectively.

He was alleged to have had criminal charm and one Tecno handset suspected to have been stolen which he could not give a satisfactory account of.

The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under section 1(2)(a) and (b) of the armed robbery and firearms (special provision) act R11laws of federation of Nigeria 2004 and section 390 (9),383 punishable under section 390(9) and section 210 (c), 430 of the criminal code cap 37 volume 1laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Plea was not taken from the accused person.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Uloh G. O prayed the court to remand the accused person in Olokuta prison custody for an offence of armed robbery.

Counsel to the accused person, Barrister A. O Adeyemi did not object the remand application made by the prosecutor.

He urged the court to send the duplicate of the case file to the next appropriate office.

In her ruling, chief magistrate Oluwafunmi Edwin, ordered the remand of the accused person at Olokuta prison custody, adding that the court shall send the duplicate of the case file to the director of public prosecution for legal advice.

She adjourned the case till January 17, 2018 for first review.
