Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has said that the first Auto rally held in the state would promote tourism and boost the economy of the State.
He made this known in Akure during the second edition of Auto rally organised by Work and Play in Akure at the weekend.
Represented by Hon Ifedayo Abegunde, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Akeredolu said the rally promoted auto-tourism, adding that it would inject a lot of money into the economy of the state.
He explained that hotels were been filled with tourists and foreigners who had come for the rally.
Speaking with pressmen, Mr Adeoye Ojuoko, Organizer, Work and Play Auto Rally, said the event had a tremendous impact on the state.
“We were able to employ more than 200 ushers. We urge more states to emulate this gesture.
“I want to impart something on the community, entertain them. I am doing it for my State,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Tony Stingray, who took the first position at the Auto rally car race, thanked the Ondo State Government for the opportunity to have the event in the state.
He described the sport as fun and expressed hope that other Governors would bring the sport to their states.
He hinted that 11 cars and 15 motorcycles took part in the rally which was 3.5 kilometres and three laps.
The first position and third position in the car category received N250,000 and N75,000 respectively, while the first place in the motorcycle category received N75,000.
