Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has commended immediate past Governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his support and the free hand he has given to him to govern the state for the past twelve months.
The Governor made this known at a Thanksgiving service to commemorate his administration’s one year in office, held at the Lawn Tennis Court of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City yesterday.
Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and other top federal government dignitaries graced the event.
Obaseki who debunked a rumour in some quarters, that Oshiomhole was directly running his administration, hinted that the former governor had never stepped the Government House since he assumed office for the past one year, attributing it to the confidence reposed in him.
He thanked him for his support, advice and prayers which he described as one of the secrets of his administration’s success so far.
While commending his predecessor Comrade Oshiomhole for bringing him out to run for the post of the number one citizen of the state, Obaseki explained that his victory paved the way for the APC candidate who is now the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu .
Obaseki thanked all religious, traditional leaders and people of the state for their supports, prayer and advice which had kept his administration soaring with numerous achievements for the past twelve months.
“This event is to thank God for His mercy, grace and His divine wisdom to to steer the ship of this state for the past one year.
“God has indeed been faithful to us. We will continue to count our blessings. Having gone through all court processes after our victory at the polls, we still came out victorious at last”, he said.
The Governor, who described the state as the most peaceful in the South South region of the country despite its challenges, thanked God for the enduring peace being enjoyed in the state.
He further lauded the collaboration and supports of party leaders and members in the state which he said has made the journey easier so far.
Obaseki who said the 12th of every year would be set aside as a Thanksgiving day in the state to commemorate inception in office, enjoined people of the state to continually cooperate with him to move the state forward for more delivery of democracy dividends.
Earlier, Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson who spoke on behalf of other Governors, lauded the Edo state governor for his achievements which has further transformed the state in just one year in office.
He admonished him to continue relying on God and remain focus in his determination to transform the state and deliver on his electioneering promises.
Dickson who commended the people of the state for their prayers and support towards the Obaseki-led administration which he attributed to success of his one year in office, appealed for more support that would make him record more successes.
Also, Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Edo State chapter, Rt. Rev (Dr) Oriname Kure, commended the governor for his meritorious service which had transformed all sectors of the state.
Kure who particularly lauded the governor in the area of road constructions, described him as a man of vision, wisdom, diligence and God-fearing who is continually delivering on his campaign promises.
The CAN Chairman who described the governor as a ‘God Serving Governor’, however, assured him of CAN’s support throughout his tenure in office.
The lawn tennis court of Samuel Ogbemudia Sport Complex was filled beyond its capacity as APC leaders, bureaucrats, top government functionaries and loyalists of the incumbent governor were present to solidarize with him.
Dignitaries who graced the Thanksgiving service include; Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, Ogun State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga,
Deputy Governor Edo State, Hon.Philip Shaibu and his wife.
