The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, has commended the people of Okeigbo town, over what he described as self-development initiatives and the various arrangements made towards the successful hosting of this year’s Okeigbo day celebration in the ancient town.
Akeredolu, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, gave the commendation on Saturday in Okeigbo in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government area of Ondo State, during the 25th Annual Day Celebration of the ancient community.
The Governor noted that the annual event which was initiated 25 years ago by some notable leaders in the community, has lived up to the vision of its founding fathers in view of the various achievements recorded in the area since the idea was initiated.
While urging the people of the ancient community to sustain the habit of self-development initiatives which according to the Governor would guarantee more development in the community, he appealed to them to continue supporting his administration in its resolve to improve the lots of the people of Ondo state.
The Governor while paying a glowing tribute to members of the Okeigbo Chiefs-in-Council for embracing peace, love and unity in the area, stressed the need for the indigenes of the community at home and in the diaspora to continue to support leaders of the town in the bid of initiating more development to the area.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the planning committee of the annual day celebration, Mr. Festus Olaolu, described the celebration as one of the best to be organised in the history of the ancient community.
He expressed his gratitude on behalf of the people of the community to the governor all other invited guests who attended the event over what he described as their love and kindness towards the development of the community.
He appealed to the Ondo State Government on the need to key into the tourism potential of the ancient community which to include Igbo-Olodumare, Ehin Oke water fall and other untapped mineral resources in the town, explaining that if properly harnessed, these will contribute more to the growth of economic resources of the state.
He used the occasion to thank numerous indigenes of the town for their support in recent time, especially on the issue of the recent conclusion of the litigation of the Obaship tussle, as he appealed to parties to chart the way forward as the coronation of new king in the town is long overdue.
In his message at the occasion, the chairman Okeigbo Central Council, Engr. Oyewole Elusiyan, applauded the various innovative measures that have taken place in the celebration.
While describing the celebration as unique, he noted that the it has become an avenue for the indigenes to contribute their quota to the development of the community.
He reiterated the readiness of the people of the community to continue in supporting the present administration in Ondo State under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu
He also reminded the people of the community of the need to embrace the vision of the Okeigbo Consultative Forum (OCF) which is geared towards uplifting the status of the ancient town by settling up industrial ventures in the town.
The well attended and colourful event which had side attractions like cultural dance, drama presentation, Egungun displayed, funds raising, posthumous awards presentation to many deserving late indigenes of the community prize giving price given to the winners of athletic, essay and quiz competitions.
