Any nation aspiring for greatness and meaningful development in the 21st century must develop her science education and information technology sectors.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Femi Agagu declared this while playing host to the members of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, Ondo State Branch who were on a courtesy visit to his office yesterday in Akure.
The Commissioner, who stressed that the importance of Science Education to the overall development of the nation cannot be over-emphasised, said the present administration under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, will continue to support and encourage, teachers in the state through adequate welfare to enhance their productivity.
Mr Agagu enjoined the Science teachers to always have a vision for improving Science Education in the State, while also seeing themselves as major vehicles for actualising the lofty goals of present administration for the sector. This he said is possible if the officers can put in their best in the discharge of assigned duties.
In her remarks, Chairman of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria, Ondo State Branch, Mrs. Omolade Oludare said Science Education, Technological Education and information communication stand as the veritable instrument for meaningful development of a nation in the 21st century globalisation.
Oludare commended the Ministry for the cordial relationship with the association which she said had resulted to teachers, students and pupils winning laurels and trophies for the State at various levels of educational competition because of sponsorship by the State Government and the redeeming of scholarship awards towinning science students.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry, Mr Steve Awosika promised more collaboration with the Association by the Ministry for positive results in the years ahead.
