Many people of real ability do little things all their lives because they are the victims of discouraging self- suggestions. Whenever they attempt to do anything, they allow their minds to dwell on the possibility of failure, and they picture the consequent humiliation of it all until they cripple their powers of initiative. We won’t accomplish anything worthwhile until we affirm in one way or another that we can do what we undertake. In this write up we will learn how we can overcome roadblocks to success by giving yourself pep talks that will inject you with the serum of self confidence and affirm your belief in your ability to achieve your goals.
The constant affirmation of your inherent right and power to succeed changes inhospitable conditions and unkind environments to favorable ones. You soon create a success atmosphere, and good things come your way. You make yourself a success magnet.
Never allow anybody or any misfortune to shake your belief in yourself. You may lose your property, your health, your reputation, even other people’s confidence, but there is always hope for you so long as you keep a firm faith in yourself. If you keep pushing on, the world will, sooner or later, make way for you.
Mary Kay Ash, the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics in Dallas Texas, attributed her success to the development of confidence and esteem in herself and in the 250,000 people in her worldwide organization of independent beauty consultants. When she opened her own company, Mary Kay made it a policy to encourage her employees by helping them affirm their own self esteem. An open door policy prevails at the company, and Mary Kay prides herself on recognizing most employees and giving a warm welcome to newcomers.
In an article in Personal Excellence, she suggested some exercises that will help you create your image of excellence and success in your life. She mentioned seven practices:
- Imagine yourself successful.
Always picture yourself successful.
Visualize the new you, whom you desire to become.
Set aside time each day to be alone and undisturbed.
Get comfortable and relax completely.
Close your eyes and reflect on where you are now and where you want to be in the future.
Imagine every detail, and capture that picture in your mind. When discouragements come throughout the day, pull that image up in your mind and look at it. Never minimize any success you have experienced. Every success, no matter how small, is proof that you have the capability to achieve more successes. Celebrate each success as it comes and mark it indelibly in your memory so you can call it up each time you begin to lose your confidence.
