The South South Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Rachael Akpabio who presided over the consultative zonal meeting on true federalism and restructuring in Ondo state has made it  clear  that agitations did not lead to the setting up of  this committee on restructuring.

She made the declaration at the zonal meeting on restructuring held at the International Cultural and Event Centre (The Dome) in Akure, the state capital, noting that true federalism and restructuring are some of the focal points of APC campaign during the 2015 election.

Akpabio said,”restructuring and true federalism is well entrenched in our party’s manifesto.

“We campaigned with it , we told Nigerians that if we get to power we will restructure Nigeria to reflect true federalism, where equity will prevail over injustice “

According to her, “we just have to give it time and  take every of our campaign promises sequentially, in order not to muddle things together”

She said this is just  God’s appointed time to talk about restructuring noting that it is very important that all the groups, governments, Royal Fathers, Youths, women and the physically challenged people lend their voices on what we should do as far as restructuring is concerned.

“It is something that we will do that will have effect on you, your state and  as individuals, including our children, even those in government.

“So let’s take this issue very serious and give us something tangible that we will take back to the national committee of the party, which will be our own voice on how it should be done”.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Ondo State APC Elders Assembly, Senator Olorunnimbe Farukanmi from Akure North local government advised that Nigeria should revert to the less expensive Parliamentary system of government with six regional governments, just as it was before the military interference in the system of government in Nigeria.

The former legislator said ,the most profitable and desirable system of government needed in Nigeria is the parliamentary type with six regional governments , saying some local governments and a federal government will have limited duties, such as foreign affairs, security , power generation, education, transportation and many others.’

He reiterated that we should revert to the practice of a true parliamentary system of government with six regional governments similar to what it was when we had four regional governments.

According to him, the type of restructuring desirable is by embarking on the parliamentary system of government as against the expensive presidential system which had impacted negatively on the infrastructural resources available for the populace.
