The Catholic Bishops of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province in a communiqué signed by Archbishop Gabriel Abegurin at the end of their meeting held in Ede, Osun State and made available to The Hope has submitted that the security situation in Nigeria is very weak.

The Bishops from Ilorin, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Osogbo Dioceses, wondered why deadly weapons could be in the possession of assailants and challenged those who are charged with securing human life and property in the Nation, to do more to protect the citizens.

While condemning whatever may be the root of the Ozubulu incidence & similar occurrences, the Catholic Bishops posited, that the bottom line is that, the security situation in Nigeria is very weak.

The Clerics say, that they uphold the sanctity of human life, given by God and not to be taken away by anyone, and therefore, condemned the evil of such a horrendous and callous killing of innocent worshippers right in the church, during holy mass.

On the resurgence of Terrorism in the North Eastern part of Nigeria, the Catholic Bishops commended the Presidential order that returned the Nigerian Military chiefs in full force to the center of the battle and urged the military and other security Agencies to eschew all forms of corruption, nepotism and betrayal, and fight for the unity and integrity of Nigeria.

They called for the restructuring of Nigeria according to the Laws of Equity and Justice, and appealed to families, religious, traditional and Political leaders, to be vigilant and work together to protect and strengthen the cultural, moral and religious values.

Other issues raised at the meeting include lingering challenges in the Education sector, Rights of workers and unpaid salaries, Ongoing Marian Year and Enduring commitment to Liturgical rules.
