Consumer protection Council (CPC) in Ondo State has within the last quarter of 2017 destroyed goods and products worth N3.5million.
The state Administrative Secretary of the Council Mr Akin Kayode disclosed this yesterday in an interview with The Hope in Akure.
He said the products were seized and destroyed because many of them were expired, some counterfeited and others contraband.
Among the products destroyed are pharmaceutical items, (drugs) drinks like juice and other beverages including tyres that were substandard and other items..
Kayode explained that the worth of the products destroyed are measured on a daily basis .
He noted that the council give advice to the people when the product are being destroyed to desist from selling those items or face the wrath of the law.
According to him, most of those products when consumed after expiration can result in cancer.
His words: “After the expiring date, they become cancerous
“When cancer sets in with the multiplication of irregular cells within the body it can lead to death”, he said.
In an attempt to prevent such harm coming to the consumers in the state, the council he stressed withdraws those items for destruction.
