The Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, has explained why the House rescheduled the planned screening of Commissioner nominees till today.
The Assembly had earlier slated for last week Friday, the screening of the 18 Commissioner nominees whose names were forwarded to the Assembly by the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for confirmation.
However, the screening proper could not hold on Friday as planned and was subsequently postponed till today.
Speaking on the postponement after a meeting with the Commissioner nominees at the Speaker’s office, the Speaker of the House who is also the Chairman, Selection and Screening Committee, explained that the committee agreed to postpone the screening to enable the hallowed chamber attend to other pressing legislative functions, especially the passage of some necessary bills into laws.
Five separate bills were later passed into laws on Friday at the plenary sitting presided over by the House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun.
According to Oleyelogun, the passage of the pending bills was very vital as it would guide and assist the incoming Commissioners in performing their duties in office when eventually confirmed.
“The bills would guide the Commissioner nominees in the discharge of their duties and improve productivity. It would make their job easier.
“Those bills were very important to the socio-economic development of the state. The bills would encourage foreign investors to come to Ondo state because they would be rest assured that they have legal backing and that their money and investments are safe.
He emphasised that some of the bills especially SITA bill and others, were long overdue, noting that their passage into law now would ensure economic and technological development of the Sunshine State.
The Speaker said the bills would also go a long way in providing necessary infrastructures and social amenities to the people of the state.
He appreciated the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for his total commitment to the development of all sectors of the economy in the state.
The Speaker further commended the diligence and unwavering commitment of lawmakers to their legislative functions which has also led to speedy and successful passage of necessary bills by the hallowed chamber.
He also enjoined the people of the state to remain law-abiding and continue to pray, support and cooperate with the Akeredolu-led administration as he was working very hard to take the state to the next level of greatness.
