Ondo State Government has indicated its readiness to review the curriculum of study for primary and secondary schools in the state with a view to achieving set objectives for the development of the State.
Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) made this known, during the commissioning of 165 furniture, comprising chairs, desks and tables for teachers and students of Aquinas College, Akure (ACA) donated by MTN Foundation.
He said there was no level as important as primary and secondary education, hence the plan by his administration to renovate public primary and secondary schools in the state.
“Improving the school environment is very crucial to learning. We have invited interested persons to bid for social projects, with a view to ameliorate the acute infrastructural deficit occasioned by neglect.
“It is an unpardonable omission for a society which expects development to neglect its primary and secondary levels devoted to formation stages of human development.
“We believe that our children deserve to learn in a conducive environment. Only under a conducive environment can meaningful learning take place,” he said.
Akeredolu, who thanked the MTN Foundation for its noble gestures in the state, described the intervention as highly impactful.
The Governor further said education would continue to occupy a place of priority in the present dispensation because it is the most significant and viable investment to benefit a society immensely.
Earlier, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, Chairman, MTNF, had stated that in partnership with the Foundation, the people of Ondo State have benefited from various MTNF projects valued at over N236 million in the last 12 years.
He explained that the foundation has also invested over N96 million in providing scholarships and school furniture to students in the state.
“We remain determined to continue improving the quality of life of the people of our nation and bringing hope to our young ones, assisting them to scale hurdles in their path to learning and development.
“I am particularly glad that the 150 students desks and benches as well as 15 teacher’s tables and chairs being donated by the Foundation, will enhance the learning experience for the current set of students.
“They are our future and equipping them with the tools needed to learn, grow and succeed is critical to their development which will in turn, act as a catalyst for our nation’s progress.
“We are also pleased that critical stakeholders in Ondo State recognise the importance of public-private partnership to develop key sectors of the state, such as education, health, security and the economy,” he said.
Adeluyi further advised the students of the school to use the new facilities properly and to take advantage of the enhanced learning environment to further enhance their learning.
“Remember that with proper use, you will be setting an example for others who will join you in this great citadel of learning.
“I wish to thank the Ondo State Governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) for his presence today and for his support towards our various initiatives in the state,” he said.
