The Caretaker Chairmen of the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo state have expressed their readiness to partner with the Ondo State House of Assembly to ensure rapid development at the grassroots.

The council Chairmen disclosed this at a meeting of the House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs held with all Local Government Caretaker Chairmen at the Assembly chamber.

They also promised a robust working relationship with the Assembly and also to look inwards and improve their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without unnecessarily overburdening the people at the grassroots.

Earlier, the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Jamiu Maito, representing Akoko North-West State Constituency 1, said the essence of the meeting was to familiarise with the caretaker chairmen for all round development and progress at the grassroots level.

Maito said the meeting would foster good relationship between the House Committee and the 18 council areas of the state, just as he charged council bosses to put in more efforts to increase Internally Generated Revenue at the local government level to improve their financial status.

“We are expecting them to cooperate among themselves and also relate with the Assembly so as to create a good platform that will make it easy for them to perform,” Maito said.

The Committee charged the caretaker chairmen to prepare their budget as soon as possible for approval by the House so that people at the grassroots could feel positive impacts of the present administration.

It would be recalled that the Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Akeredolu appointed the 18 Caretaker Chairmen about three months ago after a court order dissolved the council bosses under the leadership of the immediate past administration.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Ogundipe who appreciated the Assembly for the interface, also explained that the Ministry was working to ensure that people at the grass roots enjoy the dividends of good governance in line with the programmes of Akeredolu led administration.

Also, the Caretaker Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, Prince George Adenikinju, noted that all the 18 council bosses had keyed into the good developmental programmes of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the benefit of the people at the grassroots level.

He added that his administration has started putting smiles on the faces of the people in the council area and has built 42 lockup shops for the convenience of market women, while many other women would be empowered within the next few days based on the available resources.

Adenikinju further emphasised that many youths would be employed through agricultural programme which the local government has put in place to boost the economy of the council and make the youth self-reliant.

He added that the local government was looking inwards to improve the IGR of the council without overburdening the people.

Other members of the committee include Hon. Olugbenga Araoyinbo, Hon. Olusegun Ajimotoki, Hon. Oluyede Feyide, Hon. Kaseem Suleiman, Hon. Sunday Olajide, Hon. Felemu Gudu-Bankole and Hon. Mukaila Musa.
