For us to gain eternal life, Nigerians have been advised to desist from extravagance and oppression of the less privileged.
Fr Joseph Oraegbunam, Assistant Parish Priest who is also the Youth Animator of Mary Help of Christians, Akure, made this call at St Paul Catholic Church Shagari village, yesterday.
The cleric who cited the story of Lazarus and the rich man from Luke 16: 19-31 strongly advised that God is not pleased with extravagance and oppression of the poor.
He said our wealth and riches are not for us, but to help others who are in need.
Fr Joseph said the privileged ones in the society should stop exploiting the poor in their daily affairs saying, greed is one of the factors that brought us to where we are today in this country.
“Buying cheap products from the poor and selling the same product back to them at high cost has become part of us and that needs to be corrected.
He said: “there are three categories of people that should not be oppressed, they are: the widows, strangers and the poor because God has special interest in them
He urged everyone to live faithful and worthy lives in order to avert eternal condemnation after life.
