Bimbola Oladapo (M), while the governor’s wife, Olukemi assists, during the Anniversary’s Dinner/Award Night and Launching of Endowment Fund for the College held in Ondo at the weekend
The old adage of “A Prophet is not honoured at home” was faulted at the weekend as Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State was presented with an Award of Excellence for Visionary and Selfless Leadership by his Alma Mater, Saint Joseph’s College, Ondo.
The Award was presented to Mimiko by the Old Boys Association of his Alma Mater, at the Dinner/Award Night and Launching of Endowment Fund for the college.
The Award Night with a large number of Ekimoguns particularly Alumni of Saint Joseph’s College, SJC, held at Oba Adesanoye Civic Center, was part of the activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the college
The ceremony with large dignitaries in attendance, including the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr Victor Kiladejo was also attended by members of the Ondo State Executive Council among others.
In his brief remarks before the presentation of the Award to Governor Mimiko, Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee, Nobilitas Bimbola Oladapo said the Award was a token from the Old Boys Association of SJC to appreciate the leadership traits of the awardee which he said have changed the face of the college and entire Ondo State.
He said Mimiko had been a very good Ambassador of Saint Joseph’s College and had earned to himself many laurels Nationally and Internationally, adding that it is only God who can fully reward Governor Mimiko for what he has done as Governor in Ondo State.
Presenting the Award to Governor Mimiko, Chairman of the occasion, Nobilitas Chief Ope Bademosi said Mimiko deserved the Award by every standard.
He said he is proud of Governor Mimiko as Alumnus of SJC and proud of Saint Joseph’s College as an Alumnus too, saying that they are looking forward to see the school as the best in Nigeria.
Responding, Governor Mimiko thanked the Old Boys Association of his Alma Mater for the honour done him as he said he is unusually excited with the Award coming from his foundation.
He said Saint Joseph’s College is his foundation and that the subtle leadership training he received as a student of the college helped him so much in life, particularly as a Governor in the last seven years.
Accompanied by his wife, Olukemi, Mimiko announced at the ceremony that his registration number at Saint Joseph’s College is 524 which tallies with the Private Mail Bag, PMB number of Saint Joseph’s College.
Highlights of the ceremony was the inauguration of the new Executive members of the Old Boys Association of Saint Joseph’s College with Nobilitas Olusola Akinniyi as the President by Governor Mimiko and honouring other Nobilitas who had distinguished themselves in their fields among others.
