Despite a large area of coverage, officers, rank and file of Okuta-Elerinla Divisional Police headquarters have been able to checkmate all manners of crimes and criminality happening in the area, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the station, CSP Anthony Omeh has said.
Omeh who spoke while delivering his speech at the occasion of the familiarisation tour of CP Mike Ogbodu to police stations in Akure Area Command said officers of his division have been pro-active and exhibited a high level of professionalism in tackling crime related issues happening in the area.
The DPO who attributed crime reduction in the division to the various security strategies and partnership with the host communities and the general public told the police boss that crime rate has been brought to a tolerable level.
His words, “Okuta Elerinla has a very large jurisdiction with various communities coupled with the higher institution of learning (i.e FUTA) under its care. This vast coverage has made my men to go the extra mile to maintain peace having displayed a high level of professionalism in checkmating crimes and criminality.
Considering the strategic location of this division and the security challenges in the country, compared with its strength, it goes without saying that the division has the problem of shortage of manpower and mobility among other necessary logistics needed to work with.
”Our robust relationship with the host communities has assisted us in fighting crime. People in this area have been sleeping with their two eyes closed,” he stated.
While appreciating the synergy between the police and other sister security agencies, the DPO assured the CP that his men are ready to do their best towards ensuring that the existing peace is sustained.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in charge of Okuta Elerinla Police Station, Engineer Ilesanmi Ajayi appreciated the CP for his visit, assuring him of their continuous support to the police.
He commended the DPO and his men for doing a wonderful job in protecting the people.
Responding, CP Ogbodu said he embarked on the tour of police formations in Akure Area Command for him to know his officers and men and advised them on the need to take their job seriously.
He described the members of the PCRC as people who render selfless service towards ensuring peace in the land just as he urged the policemen to always accord them respect and oblige them any request or favour they may ask for.
He promised to look into some of the problems facing the division and address them appropriately.
The Chairman of the PCRC in Fanibi, Chief D.O Afuye and his counterpart in “B” Division Oke-Aro, Elder (Dr) Fakolade who spoke separately with The Hope commended the CP and pledged their continuous support to the police.
