As controversy continues to trail the mysterious death of a middle aged man, Anthony Ackon who was reported to have died as a result of a candle light which engulfed his sitting room, at Block B, Plot 8 Oda road in Akure area of Ondo State, the police have said it is probing the cause of the death.
The deceased was said to have lighted a candle stick in his bedroom and slept off when the candle light gutted his mattress and burnt him to death.
According to reports, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed as a result of the inferno.
It was learnt that the victim was burnt to a state of coma before his neighbours who got information about the inferno attempted to rescue him, but all efforts were said to be futile as the victim gave up the ghost while at the hospital.
Unconfirmed reports had it that the deceased was discovered to have been chained on his two legs, a mystery the police is trying to unravel.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident said at the time the police was alerted on the incident and subsequently arrived at the scene, the deceased has been burnt.
He said the deceased was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but could not survive.
However, some residents have called on the police to carry out proper investigation on the matter as some of them were of the opinion that the deceased died in mysterious circumstances since he was discovered to have been chained at the time he was found dead.
They said the deceased who is a non-native may have died as a result of the several degrees of injuries he sustained during the inferno.
DSP Joseph hinted that the deceased was earlier rushed to the Specialists Hospital in Akure where he was referred to the Trauma Centre in Ondo where he finally gave up the ghost.
The corpse, according to the police PRO had since been deposited at the mortuary for possible autopsyexamination.
The police image maker who described the death as an unnatural one said the police is currently probing the death saying autopsy will reveal the cause of the death.
He assured the members of the family of the deceased that the police would ensure that justice is done in the matter and that the culprits will face the wrath of the law.
