Journalists in Ondo State have been commended for their undiluted and unbiased coverage of the State government’s activities.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Bamiduro Dada, gave the commendation at the October edition of the jazz nite of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held at the Press Centre, Alagbaka, Akure.
Describing journalists as very important in nation building, the commissioner who was the special guest of honour at the event appreciated media professionals in the state for not practicing destructive journalism in reporting government activities.
He therefore thanked the union for the opportunity given him to be its special guest of honour at the event, informing that his door is always open to members of the union.
The state NUJ chairman, Mr. James Sowole appreciated members for attending the jazz nite which he described as the first since the inception of his administration.
He thanked God that the jazz nite was resuscitated a year after it has stopped. The event according to him, “ought to be held monthly.”
Sowole therefore appealed to politicians not to turn down the union’s offer to be special guests of honour due to negative message that used to be transferred to the public about them by attending the programme, assuring that such can never happen during his administration.
